Operational Modes

Heat Pump (Only) Mode
Provides the greatest energy savings.
Hybrid Standard Mode
Balances energy savings and hot water recovery speed.
Hybrid Plus Mode
Maximizes recovery speed for high demand situations.

Electric (Only) Mode
Provides the least energy savings, stops the fan, the heat pump and the flow of cool air.
Vacation Mode
Maximizes energy use and maximizes savings during periods when users are away.

How the AeroTherm^® Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heater Works

Heat Absorption

The fan pulls in air from the surrounding environment and moves it over an evaporator coil. The heat in the air is transferred to the refrigerant.
Heat Transfer

The heat in the air is transferred to the refrigerant inside the coil turning it into a vapor.
Compression Loop

A compressor compresses the vapor, pumping it through the condenser coil that is wrapped around the tank.
Heat Exchange Loop

The vapor transfers the heat to the water. Then as it cools down, the refrigerant turns back into a liquid. This cycle repeats itself as needed.
